American Association of University Women will hold a forum on education at its monthly meeting Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the courthouse at Historic Richmond Town.
The theme is "Education as the Gateway to Women's Economic Security."
The panel will comprise top local educators Loretta Prisco, head of Parents Action Committee for Education; Zelig Sokol, a former borough supervisor of music education, and Joan McKeever-Thomas, president of Staten Island IDEAL. Moderating will be Lillian Popp, a former teacher and a 1994 Advance Woman of Achievement.
Among the topics to be addressed are the Campaign for Fiscal Equity lawsuit, charter schools, mandatory testing, limited or no education in the arts, school vouchers, new trends in Island education and parental involvement.
The meeting also will include selection of new officers. The group actively seeks new members: College graduates with associate's or bachelor's degrees are eligible.
